🎉 From 316 to 22,000+ Subscribers in 38 Days on YouTube! How I did it!
Overnight success or pure dumb luck? I'm sharing the tea! ☕
My new YouTube channel has blown up overnight!
(or so it seems :)
Four weeks ago, I had only 316 subscribers.
Today, I have gained:
22,044 subscribers
436,300 channel views
31,300 hours of watch time
And I’ve only posted 7 videos to this new channel. People spend years uploading videos before ever getting to 20,000 subscribers.
So was it luck?
Did the algorithm decide to favor me over the millions of other creators on YouTube?
No.
The secret to my “fast” YouTube success is in three words:
Search Engine Optimization.
And it is exactly because of this that not one, but two of my recent videos are now RANKING on YouTube for the keyword “Multiple Passions.”

Once you understand that YouTube is a “search engine,” it all begins to make sense.
Many have requested a step-by-step walkthrough on how I did it. I'm spilling the beans on things you must know to gain momentum and grow faster on YouTube.
Plus, I'll give you a completely free Video SEO Masterclass at the end. You'll learn the exact SEO strategy I used for this particular video that blew my channel up overnight.
Let’s jump in.
First, how did I learn so much about YouTube?
As someone with multiple passions and so much to talk about, I faced the challenge of having too many ideas. I wanted to talk about anything and everything I was interested in. And while this might work for some people, it’s not always a great strategy and here’s why.
When I started YouTube in 2016 on a previous channel, I wanted to talk about makeup, beauty, and lifestyle.
Then I shifted the channel to fitness content, and shifted again to relationships and dating. The channel blew up after I started talking about sex and boom, my algorithm locked onto that type of content.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the niche I wanted to build my personal brand around. I stopped posting to that channel for a while to refocus my mission and get aligned.
Fast forward five years later, when I decided to take YouTube seriously again, I wanted to teach about self-mastery and online businesses.
This was a very different creator persona, and I knew I had to start from scratch. Which leads me to my next point.
Step 2 - You may have to start from scratch
This is not for everyone.
For me, it was inevitable. My new YouTube channel blowing up is not the overnight success it appears to be on the outside.
I have had three other YouTube channels before this one. They had all surpassed 1,000 subscribers.
One of my channels had gained 8,900+ subscribers. But this was over a six-year period of starting, stopping, and changing my content so many times.
Although I was tempted to stick to the channel because of the subscriber count and my sweat equity, the algorithm on that channel was not going to help my new YouTube idea.
To put things in perspective, that channel was ranked high in search for keywords around “relationships, dating, sex... etc.”
Now that I wanted to start talking about online marketing and monetization. I knew it was going to be a hard task to retrain my algorithm for my new keywords. I was tempted at first to keep posting and I did at first. Only to end up with a 8000+ subscriber channel and getting 100 views per video.
Not good.
I had to make a very strategic decision.
Do I keep on posting to this old channel with the wrong keywords and 8,900 subscribers but only 100 views per video?
Or do I start completely from scratch with a new channel and optimize it for my new ideas?
For me, the choice was clear: start from zero.
This wasn't a hard choice either because I understand how YouTube works.
Over the years of building on YouTube and coaching clients 1-on-1, I have learned quite a lot about YouTube. I was confident I could blow up a new channel with fresh content.
And it’s paid off because now I’m celebrating 22,000 new subscribers, and I’ve only posted 7 videos.
Step 3 - YouTube is not social media, it’s a search engine
I know most people consider YouTube to be social media. But when you conside how people use YouTube, it is in fact a Search engine. Google, the largest search engine in the world also owns YouTube.
When people are searching for anything, they go to one of two places: Google or YouTube.
For coaches and teachers like you and me, we know that most of our ideal clients will be actively searching for us on YouTube.
Successfully growing on YouTube as a coach means providing relevant, unique answers to questions in your niche or interest. To get noticed, post what people are searching for and make it easy for them to find you.
This is what optimizing your videos for search means. I’ll show you that in a bit.
Step 4 - To grow faster, optimize for search, not creativity
As a small channel, being useful is more important than being creative. Most creators worry about the perfect camera, the best lights, and the creative setup. They procrastinate and even give up because they don't have these things.
While this is important in the long run, it’s not the most important. The question you must ask is: How can I post my videos in a way that people who are searching for these answers can find me?
Think about it. If someone really needs your information, they won’t care about video quality—they want answers. Your job is to ensure your videos appear in search results.
This is what YouTube SEO is about. It’s why two of my new videos rank in the top 3 for “Multiple Passions.”
Yes, it works even for small channels. I had only 316 subscribers when I published my video that blew up. That one video has now gained over 444,000 views, brought me a tribe of 20,000+ new subscribers, and my life will never be the same.
