The Right Way to Break Your Ideas Down into Modules for Your Digital Course
Do not skip this step when creating courses
Most creators want to productize their knowledge with courses.
Every coach I know wants to scale from 1:1 to 1:many by offering a digital course.
While digital courses are easy to create, the hard part for most people is creating the modules.
How do you know what topics to teach in the course?
How do you squeeze your many ideas into step-by-step modules?
What parts do you leave out, and what parts do you keep?
How do you ensure your course is easy to follow?
For most coaches, what they want to teach is so diverse that creating organized modules for a course seems impossible.
If you’re overwhelmed by trying to put your course together, this article will guide you.
Here’s a very simple 4 step process for breaking your many ideas down into modules for your digital course.
Identify the Main Problem Your Course Must Solve
The biggest problem I see with most course creators and coaches is a lack of clarity. They are here, there, and everywhere with their program. You must know the one things that your course is solving. You want to make sure you keep the one thing top of mind at all times.
The more focused and specific your course is, the better. If you think your course idea would need too many videos, it might be best to create two separate courses.
“How to Cook Healthy Meals”
is not as specific as
“How to Cook Healthy Meals to Manage Diabetes”
When you identify the main problem you are solving and get hyper-specific, it will also help you call in the perfect-fit clients and students for this course.
Here’s a quick tutorial on How to Use the Kobocourse Ideas Generator to Generate 1000 Specific Ideas for your Course in 1 second!👇🏾
When coming up with profitable ideas for your digital course, always choose specificity above all.
Collect All the Questions on this Topic
Now you have a hyper-specific course idea or topic. The next step is to blow your own mind with all the related questions that often come up for this topic.
Here are 5 best tools to research questions:
Quora
Reviews on Amazon
Comments and DMs from your followers
Answer the public
Google
I prefer Google to start because Google has a massive collection of data from people.
As you get deeper into your research, you can try the other tools.
Start a Google search
Enter your key search phrase related to your course
Next mouse over to the section that says “People also ask..”
Google will then show you the specific questions people are asking about this topic. Usually, these questions are very accurate and will give you a base idea of what to focus on.
The reason you need this is that you want to ensure you are covering as much detail as possible in your course.
You may or may not use this at all.
Next is Conducting actual research with your Followers.
Getting direct feedback and answers from the people who will buy your course is key. Of course, you cannot go around asking your followers one by one about their problems.
Here’s an easier way:
Create a simple Google form to survey your followers
Ask very specific, core questions about the problem they are having
What challenges are you facing with “Topic”
What do you need the most with “Topic”
What does success look like for you when you’ve solved “Topic”
Here’s a preview of the exact form I send to my clients. If you need me to support you 1:1, and work with you to build out your Digital Course Launch strategy and Sales Funnels, click this link here to apply now
How would you distribute this form?
Here are a few ways that I share my forms and run surveys.
I share my form instead of a landing page to offer a lead magnet
I tell my followers that this is a survey for my upcoming course
I share the form as a step to joining the Waitlist for my courses
I share the form as an application step to join any private groups/ offers
Create your Course Framework: Get your Students From Point A to Point B
This step requires you to think about your Course and your solution.
You are creating a course to offer your own solution to a unique problem.
Usually, this would be an experience you had, a system to get certain results, your own spin on how to achieve something, etc.
For example, with my course 1000 Dollars in 30 Days, I teach a simple Framework that takes my students from Idea to Income.
By following this simple framework, even students who are complete beginners at selling their knowledge online are able to achieve incredible results too.
That said, your Course is your solution offered in a systemized, easy-to-follow manner. To break this down, we need to identify, where is your student now and where they want to be.
The bridge in this journey is the step-by-step solution in your course.
If this is something you have achieved yourself, it helps to remember how you solved this problem for yourself.
What you must do is lay out every single step in the process, including all the sub-steps. , you want to do this on paper by hand because it helps your thinking process.
For example, I teach Creators how to write and sell eBooks.
If my course is “From Broke to Books that Bank - How to Make Your First $10,000 selling Ebooks on Instagram”
From this Title, you can already tell I’m trying to help people:
Overcome poverty
Write and Sell eBooks
Leverage Instagram to Get Sales
That’s almost a 3-in-1 affair. But it helps because I’m able to create a unique and compelling offer.
Now let’s break it apart into different topics and ideas I can cover.
How to create a vision for yourself
How to overcome the negative broke thoughts that keep you broke
How to use affirmations to rewire your mind for wealth
How to come up with engaging and profitable eBook titles
How to break your Ideas into Chapters for the eBooks

You can already see there are many things involved here. I can keep on going on and on with these ideas.
The key here is to broaden your mind on what is possible and what you will cover.
Don’t forget, you also have many questions from Google search. Plus, the problems submitted by your followers in your surveys.
It helps to have a lot of ideas and topics to cover in your course and then to trim the fat. But first, let’s organize these ideas into Modules.
Organize all Your Ideas into 5 Modules with Classes
Now that you have all those steps, ideas, and problems the next step is to categorize them into blocks. These blocks/categories will become modules for your course.
Now let’s go back to our eBook Idea. I have taken all the ideas from the last point and broken them into 5 Modules, each with 4 - 5 classes.
This is a sustainable way to create a module for your Digital Course.
You definitely can have more modules and classes in your course.
But, the shorter and more straight to the point your course is, the easier it will be for your students to consume.
From our “Making money with eBooks” example: I have
MONEY MINDSET - Break the Broke Mentality
How to create a vision for yourself
How to overcome the negative broke thoughts that keep you broke
How to use affirmations to rewire your mind for wealth
EBOOK CREATION - Write Your Profitable Ebook
