6 Questions to Ask Before You Launch a Digital Course
Question #5 is how you'll build the right modules for your Course
In the past 3 years alone, I have launched more than 10 digital courses. Some of them flopped. Some of them became very successful.
As the creator of Kobocourse, the first all-in-one Course hosting platform for Africans, I automatically took it upon myself to master how to sell courses online.
This started initially as a personal desire for my own education business. But as Kobocourse began to grow with new Course creators selling their courses on the platform, I began to notice a pattern.
There were more courses than sales.
Creators were making courses, but so many of them had no clue how to sell.
As I dug deeper, I began to see that it was more than just a “selling” problem. In fact, as you’ll learn, a big part of selling a Course happens long before the course is created.
This is why asking yourself these 6 Questions is essential to the success of any digital course you create.
Here they are in order:
What is the one problem I’m trying to solve? [PROBLEM]
It helps when you create a digital course to solve one specific problem. The more focused your course is, the easier it becomes to sell it. Narrow your focus as much as you can to nail one problem per course.
Trying to stuff your course with so many modules, and many unnecessary videos will not make your course more valuable.
Too many course creators do not make sales simply because the problem they are solving is not clearly defined.
Who is the one person who needs this solution? [SOLUTION]
By identifying the core problem you solve with your course, you can specify exactly who your course is for. Knowing who your course is for also helps you know who it’s not for.
The clearer you are on who your ideal student is, the easier it becomes to speak that person’s language in your content and marketing materials.
You don’t want to sell to everyone. Trying to sell to everyone will have you end up selling to no one.
Getting clear on exactly who needs your course will help you:
target the right people and buyers
write a compelling and high-converting sales page
create content that connects and converts to sell your course
Where are they now and where do they want to be? [TRANSFORMATION]
When you identify your ideal student or client, it’s important that you step in their shoes.
Become your ideal client for a moment and ask yourself:
Where are they on their journey now?
What are their fears, pains, desires, and burning questions?
What are their hopes, dreams, aspirations, and goals?
Understanding the transformation journey helps you create a course that takes people on that journey to create the result they want.
What are all the questions they ask and problems they have [RESEARCH]
The people you want to serve with your course have problems. These problems are communicated through questions.
One of the best ways to attract your ideal audience for your course is to speak to the problems they have, by answering their basic questions.
People want to feel seen, heard, and understood. By identifying and answering the main questions your ideal audience is asking, you stay top of mind as the authority to follow.
What is the simplest Point A - Point B process to solve their problem? [FRAMEWORK]
The best digital courses are those that are easy to follow and implement.
There are so many ways to solve a problem, but what is the easiest way?
How can you continue to simplify your process and method so you can create a framework that works?
Your digital course is the productized version of this Framework. This is also what makes up the building blocks of the right modules for your digital course.
Essentially you are developing a system to create a specific result.
This system should help someone get from Point A, where they are, to Point B, where there want to Be.
Can my system be followed by many different people? [SCALABILITY]
The reason you’re creating your course is so that you can productize your ideas.
This way you duplicate yourself and have many people buy into your process. But can your system be used by many people?
This is why it is essential that you speak to exactly one person who has one core problem you are solving.
This way, you can easily scale your reach and have your course help any more of the same person.
By asking and answering these questions long before you create your course, you’ll be setting yourself up for success with your Launch.
